Top 10 Ridiculous Celebrity Perfumes

By  |  0 Comments

The pioneer in celebrity perfume production was Elizabeth Taylor in 1991. Her perfume, ‘White Diamonds’ was one of the best selling celebrity endorsed perfume. Since then several celebrities have brought out their perfumes. Some have more than one, like JLo has ten perfumes to her name! Some perfumes are pretty amazing but more often than not they are nothing more than ordinary. They are expensive and heavily marketed to fans who will buy anything associated with their favourite celebrity. With every celebrity bringing out a new perfume these days, some of the most ridiculous celebrity perfumes are-

10. Christina Aguilera, Inspire

With an over the top cheesy slogan, “Follow your inspiration”, Christina Aguilera also joined the bandwagon of celebrities with their perfumes. The concept of the perfume showcases Christina as the good witch Glenda from the ‘Wizard of Oz’. She is holding up the great and mighty bottle which is inside a pink bubble. The promotional product description is, “The fragrance will remind you not to drift along with the crowd, but will inspire you to stand up for what you believe in and strive for your dreams”. As tacky as it sounds, how does a fragrance literally inspire you? A cheap PR tactic, it is a ridiculous attempt at selling perfumes. As much as it talks about inspiring you, the fragrance is a dull floral with an extra sweetness.

9. Diddy, Unforgivable

Another ploy at getting attention, Diddy’s new fragrance commercial was so racy MTV refused to air it. They asked for the pawing and groping in the ad to be toned down. Of course Diddy did not agree. His inspiration in mind while creating the perfume was and I quote, “She’s strong, she’s into fashion, a woman who’s sensual and passionate, and a quiet woman. A woman who picks the words she chooses carefully, and when she speaks she says what she means.” So basically a woman with all those characteristics should smell like ‘Unforgivable’. Or should she be unforgivable?

8. Katy Perry, Purr

The advertisement features the popular pop star wearing a purple cat costume. The bottle is purple coloured and shaped like a cat as well. The one question that springs to mind is, why a cat? My initial thought when I saw the bottle was that it was probably for cats. A cat is a very strange source of inspiration especially for a perfume. The advertisement is justifiably just a marketing trick to cash-in on Katy’s choice of different looks. The fragrance is an ordinary floral scent and without any special element. Unfortunately its lasting power isn’t as good either.

7. Gwen Stefani, Harajuku Lovers Sunshine Cuties Lil’ Angel

This name was probably the result of some really out of the box thinking. With no connection whatsoever to a perfume, this long name is pretty strange. Harajuku lovers was the name of Gwen’s first solo concert tour and her clothing line launched in 2005. It is inspired from her back-up dancers during the tour . They belonged to the Harajuku area of Tokyo. The fragrance comes in a doll like bottle which reminds you of Japanese anime. Truth be told, if you didn’t know it was a perfume, it can easily be mistaken as a collectible toy.  There is an entire line of Harajuku lovers perfumes. You have baby, love, music, snow bunnies, snow bunnies G and much more. Each bottle toy has a different outfit. I guess you could just collect the entire family as a gift for a child!

6. Paris Hilton, Passport Paris

Here is another celebrity who is famous for being famous.  A millionaire heiress, she has tried her hand at everything from acting to singing. Needless to say they were total failures. I guess her next stop was bringing out her own perfume line. Created for women, Passport Paris is one among the Passport line of fragrances. The bottle looks like a cartoon box you would buy for a ten year old. It features an animated girl standing in a floral pink dress with the Eiffel tower as the background. It has a vanilla creamy smell and quite a strong scent.

5. Naomi Campbell, Naomi Campbell Cat Deluxe With Kisses

Before going to the smell or any other aspect of this perfume, the one thing that really bothers me is the name. Cat deluxe with kisses? I guess it should be of no surprise since the entire range is called a cat deluxe range! It is perplexing to search for the concept of the perfume. Is it deluxe kisses from a cat? Or a deluxe cat smells like that? The scent has had mixed reviews with some women liking it and others hating it.  Aimed at giving a typical floral fragrance, it has few notes of patchouli in it. Weirdly, most users detect a strong hint of cat pee. Maybe that’s why it is called cat deluxe? Though the ingredients don’t mention any usage of cat pee, it is a mystery as to why anybody would want to smell even remotely like cat pee?

4. Khloe & Lamar, Unbreakable

The Kardashians are famous for – oh wait nothing. Apart from starring in a reality TV show the Kardashians which documents their daily life, they don’t have any other claim to fame. With Kim Kardashian spewing perfume after perfume her sister tried her hand at it too. Launched in 2011, Unbreakable Bond was a joint project of Khloe Kardashian Odom, and Lamar Odom of LA Lakers.  The scent is collaboration, in the literal sense. It is both masculine and feminine, starting off with a very strong aftershave smell. It starts to mellow into a slightly moderate feminine scent with chocolate notes. The smell may not be all that bad but the marketing that was done was way over the top. As if hearing about their lives was not enough, promoting their fragrance just caused an over saturation of all things Kardashian.

3. Nicki Minaj, Minajesty

Nicki Minaj, Minajesty

Before any description can be given about this perfume, you have to get a look at the perfume bottle. It is designed to look like Nicki Minaj, with a golden bust complete with her bubblegum pink hair. If that is not freaky enough, the advertisement surely is. With white horses galloping in the woods, and Nicki Minaj roaming about in a hot – pink gown, the entire advertisement is an overdose of pink. The background is a toned town voice over by Nicki Minaj herself. The marketing and designing of the perfume was done in an attempt to reach the heights that Nicki herself has attained in the strange and wacky department. The scent is fruity and sweet but a strong reminder of her previous bestseller Pink Friday.

2. Selena Gomez, Selena Gomez Eau de Parfum

Selena Gomez, Selena Gomez Eau de Parfum

Probably the only reason she started her own perfume with her own name was because she got tired of being known as Justin Beiber’s girlfriend. A long bottle with an ordinary cap, it has long stemmed lips on top of the cap. The concept of having a bouquet of lips on the top of the perfume bottle cap makes absolutely no sense. It is tacky and appalling and falls flat in an attempt to look different. The smell reminds you strongly of cough syrups with its strong overtones of raspberry. Not extraordinarily great, it smells too much like an extra sweet version of Victoria Secret’s Sweet seduction.

1. Nicole Polizzi, Snooki

Nicole Polizzi, Snooki

Nicole Polizzi, Snooki

The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Jersey Shore could be a variety of emotions. For some it is disgust, for others irritation. It is hard to believe it ran for as long as it did and all the participants became celebrities. Taking her fame to another level, member Nicole Polizzi launched her new fragrance Snooki, based on her popular nickname. The bottle packaging itself is trashy and cheap looking. Sickeningly sweet and fruity, it seems like a cheap knock-off of ‘Fantasy’ by Britney spears. The scent does not last long and is annoyingly tacky. Releasing a perfume was just another way to cash in on her fame.
