Top 10 Reasons Why Dogs are Better than Boys

By  |  0 Comments

From chasing their own tails to barking at doors for no reason, dogs have been man’s best friends since time immemorial. They have proved themselves at every point of their existence and are a delight to own. Boys on the other hand are harder to deal with. They complain, they scream and what not. You can think of a million reasons not to have children, but there are billion why to keep a dog. You don’t select a dog, the dog selects you. Having a pet in your life is one of the sweetest experiences. No wonder dogs are men’s best friends! A companion for lifetime, your dog will never leave your side- even at the sickest of times. There are several reasons why people like dogs more than boys and they are:

10. Parents love dogs

Unless you are born into a family with allergic reaction to dogs and anything they touch, your parents would prefer a dog more than that boyfriend you are bringing home. They aren’t at fault; it is their nature after all. Also, parents would like the dog more than their child, if only because it is less cumbersome to deal with and gives you boatloads of attention. Attention that you would normally have to beg from your child. It’s a plus that they have to spend less on the dog-food too!

9. No need for gifts

You don’t need to spend your time and money exploring Archies or ordering from Monginis a greeting card or cake to find the perfect gift for the Bruno that you own. First things first, a mess is not created after the party for the parents to clean up. Unlike kids who require a big party with lots of guests and delicious food, your dog will be happy with the attention you give him each day and the time you play with him. For him, everyday is his birthday! The proof can be seen on his ever-happy face.

8. Dogs love long trips

So, you are taking along your family on a much-needed vacation to a peaceful coastal village. Nothing can go wrong in the travel time, right? Wrong! Your kid begins to get bored and disturbs everyone in the van, waking up the bawling baby. Resulting in chaos. Now if you had a dog instead, things would have been smooth as a slab of butter. All Timmy would do is stick his head outside the window, roll his tongue from his mouth and enjoy the fresh air. And his shining eyes would tell it all: the fun lies in the travel, not reaching the destination.

7. You’re never too old for a dog

Later in your life, when you are retired and enjoying the perks of pension and laziness, there is no greater friend than a dog to keep you company. Even when you have just turned 40 and begin to feel the effects of that mid-age crisis your parents used to talk about, a dog will instantly cheer you up. Also, while you might be late for a new hubby or a kid in your life, you are never too late for a dog. It will seriously cheer your mood up, which brings me to my next point.

6. Dogs are great stress-busters

After that tensed meeting with the boss and the work deadline approaching, you don’t want to go home and find a bigger mess there all thanks to the boys. They spilled orange juice on the walls, spoiled the carpet with food and created chaos everywhere. There’s no greater relief than to spend some time with your ever-faithful dog. They are epic stress busters. Go to a park with a stick or Frisbee in hand and you shall know why! Ever seen a sad dog? God forbid, no! Now you know why.

5. Dogs stay cute forever

Dogs remain cute throughout their lifetime, as opposed to boys whose cuteness ends with the 6th grade. That is when their hormones start kicking in. Boys at that time would begin to give even less attention to their family than before, being conscious about their image like anything. Dogs do not have to go through the paralysing process of adolescence. They don’t have to worry about their first crush or that pimple growing on their face. Their happiness is evident on their face. They were adorably cute as pups and are even more lovable as dogs.

4. Dogs always miss you

Leave home for five minutes to get milk and eggs from the nearby store and when you return, your dog will be there wagging his tail at the speed of light and barking happily to welcome you. He has missed you no matter how short of a time you disappeared in front of his eyes. Boys and children, on the other hand, don’t even realize that you had headed out to run some errand most of the times. They’d be happy just to see that you got them those chocolate-flavoured biscuits from the shop.

3.  No shame expressing love in public

You are on your way to school and when your mother comes to drop you at the bus-stop, she gives you a tight hug and a kiss in front of your friends. “Mom, not here!” you’d shout embarrassed. Same is the case with guys. But unlike certain boyfriends who are even scared of holding hands in public (let alone hugging), dogs have no shame. They’d jump upon you right in the middle of a walk in the park, happy that you have decided to accompany him. A dog doesn’t even care about anyone but his lovely owner and himself.

2. Unconditional Love

Love is always sweet in the beginning, sour in the middle and down-right bitter towards the end. Unconditional love is something you don’t get from your kids or a boyfriend, no matter what he says. If you ground them or tell them that they can’t go to that movie that has a little violence, they immediately become your worst enemy. But, your dog will come back with kisses and licks even if he was punished for chewing on that new mattress of yours. And that sort of love is not something you can buy with a new Playstation or a video game.

Indeed, they are. From a single look, they get your mood. And stare at you with a look of concern if you seem sad. When you are tensed, you need someone to listen to. They lick your face to make it all better. On the other hand, boys will only listen half-heartedly. The entire time, their mind will be focused on either that soccer match in the background or the game they’ve paused in order to talk with you. Dogs are often like books. If you are ignorant of something, they won’t taunt you. If you seek help, dogs will rush with wagging tails to assist you.
