Snowball fights, snow angels, snow men, hot chocolate, warm and fuzzy winter clothes, cuddling time with the , loved ones, Christmas, New Years and so on and so forth. Ah, what a great time of the year is winter season. We all get some respite from the scorching heat and the blaring sun, we get to wear our cute winter clothes and furry little boots and we get some time to spend with our families and sleep on a cold winter morning thanks to the winter break that we all get. But not everyone is such a big fan of winters. In some countries, winters can be a colossal pain and the people in these countries wait and long for some sun. These countries are the cold countries of our world. For the people in these countries, it is a necessity to snuggle up in beds next to fires or else they face high chances of contracting frostbites, cold, pneumonia etc. So which are these unlucky countries which face the wrath of nature with these unabashed winters? Here is a list of the top 10 coldest countries in the world –

We live in a humongous world and we don’t even know the names of some of the countries that exist. I am pretty sure that Estonia is one such country that not many have heard of and those who have heard of it would have mostly heard because of how cold it gets in this country. Located between Finland and the Baltic Sea is the country of Estonia. The temperatures are not as cold as other countries in this list but its cold temperatures prevent the people from having a normal or comfortable living during its winter seasons. But even during the other time of the year, the temperatures never really go up so it is perennially cold in Estonia

The beautiful and the breathtaking Scandinavian country of Finland has got some of the coldest and the harshest winters on the planet earth. The winters in this country are harsh when the temperatures can go down to about -20 degree Celsius. These winters last up to 4 months in a year. What makes Finland a difficult place to live is that the snowfall is almost always accompanied with strong winds which make life all the more difficult. The temperatures during the summer times are not as bad and one can have a pleasant experience in Finland during their summers.

The rest of the months, the temperatures are well below -20 degrees Celsius. But even in the summer, it is not very hot or sunny as the country is located in the north, so the rays of the sun do not penetrate much, leaving the country icy cold almost all round the year. The coldest temperature that was recorded in Iceland was about -40 degree Celsius.

The country is covered with a large sheet of ice which prevents the sunlight from penetrating into the country, making it extremely cold. The highest temperature even during their summers is around 7 degrees Celsius so one could say that it experiences winters all through the year.

Although it definitely has some very hot places, some of the hottest places on Earth like the Valley of Death, due to its sheer vastness, America is also home to the coldest regions in the world. Alaska which is situated in the northern region of America is extremely cold. The north eastern coast of America experiences some very cold and harsh winters with temperatures easily dropping -30 degrees Celsius. People can contract many skin diseases and infections due to the extent of cold in Alaska.

The lesser known neighbor of the mighty cold Russia is one of the coldest countries in the world. Kazakhstan is situated in Asia and it neighbors Russia. It experiences some of the coldest winters in the world. Its summers are pretty tolerable when the temperatures rise high but its winters are super cold. It is a hilly country which makes life all the more difficult for those living up on these hills. And due to huge amount of poverty, the government is not really doing its best to make the lives of those living in these hilly areas and facing the winters any easy. Snowfall is often accompanied with rainfall, making things all the more worse.

The upstairs neighbor of the United States of America is one of the coldest places on our planet earth. Canada has climatic patterns which is very similar to that of the United States of America. But due to its geographical position which is further up north of the United States, its winters are colder. The northern and the eastern regions of Canada have winters that last up to 5 months during which the temperature goes down to -40 degrees Celsius. But due to technological advancements, entire cities have been facilitated with infrastructure thanks to which the people do not suffer much of the cold weather.

The temperatures in winter go below -40 degrees Celsius. And with unprecedented snowfall comes winds that make the climate very dry. It is a task for people who live in Russia to survive winters.

It is very scarcely populated because of its extreme and dramatic temperatures. The lowest temperature ever recorded is -89 degrees Celsius. One cannot even imagine living in such cold conditions. The country is known very commonly as the snowy desert. So next time when you wish for more snow, think of all the people who would do anything for a the slightest hint of sunshine in their lives.
